Upcoming Event: Cybersecurity Under A Microscope

10.15.2021

The cybersecurity landscape can change in a heartbeat!

That’s one of the reasons the National Cyber Security Alliance has made “Do Your Part. #BeCyberSmart”  this year’s theme for Cybersecurity Awareness Month.

Consider this: as of 2021, a ransomware attack occurs every 11 seconds, up from 39 seconds in 2019 and 43% of cyberattacks target small business, with attacks growing 400% since the outbreak of the pandemic.

In 2020, a sharp increase was reported in cyber-attacks that targeted businesses using stolen logins and passwords. Most personal information is stored either on a computer, smartphone, or tablet. Therefore, knowing how to protect that information is of high importance not just for an individual, but also for organizations.

Since cybercriminals often rely on human error to gain access to systems, it’s important that top leadership down to the newest employee remains vigilant to keep data, customers, and capital safe and secure.

Doing you part begins with owning your role in cybersecurity, even if that means starting with the basics like creating strong passwords, using multi-factor authentication, backing up your data, and updating your software.

Want a quick set of tips to strengthen your cybersecurity posture? Always keep the following in mind:

  • Treat business information as you would personal information.
  • Don’t make passwords easy to guess.
  • Stay up to date with your software and security settings.
  • Recognize that social media is part of the fraud tool set.
  • Remember: It only takes one click for a data breach to occur.
