We hear a lot of interesting theories about the cloud. Mainstream society has done a pretty good job of misinterpreting the cloud for personal use. Some people believe the cloud literally hangs over everyone’s head. Storing personal information for everyone in the same spot, waiting to rain down sensitive photos, passwords, and information for whoever wants it.

We have also heard that the cloud is unreliable, inaccessible, and just a “fad.” Although it may be challenging for every consumer to adapt to the cloud, the cloud for business has proven to be a permanent fixture in IT solutions. If you read our article last month, you know that 85% of executives were surprised by how many additional benefits they saw from using cloud based solutions in their business.

At Datasmith we work to provide a plan that meets your business needs. So today we wanted to address the top 3 common cloud myths we hear on a daily basis.

1) The Cloud isn’t a safe place for my data, files, and business.

In most circumstances, the cloud is a safer place to conduct business than an on site server center. Cloud based vendors, software, and storage are held to stricter security standards. They have to follow PCI, HIPAA, Sarbanes-Oxley Act, and many other regimented policies to be compliant.

2) There’s only one cloud.

There are a wide variety of clouds available to consumers and businesses. There are private and public clouds or hybrid cloud options. The private cloud business is booming and get help your business’ bottom line.

3) The cloud is expensive / cheap.

We have heard either. Some people believe the cloud is an unobtainable solution for their business. They think it comes with high, long-term costs. Others think the cloud is a “cheap” way out of traditional IT. The reality is that any IT solutions company should be able to provide you a plan that fits your budget, business needs, and security needs.
